Mystery Schools
Facilitators: Ira Gordon and Rev. Ron Moor
You have been telling people that this is the eleventh hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour. ...
We are the ones we've been waiting for.
--Hopi Elder Speaks
Have you ever been exposed to information you weren't ready for? In
the Jewish religion, there is a tradition that one ought not to
undertake, the study of the mystical teachings known as Kabbalah
until one is at least 35 years of age and married (ie: sexually
active). In many wisdom traditions, there is a recognition that to
journey into rarified areas of understanding without the protection
of strong containership and strong grounding is to court ethical
dissolution, mental illness, or death.
Mystery schools, from the gnostic enclaves of Egypt to
the Pythagorean academy of southern Italy to the Essene
compounds in the Judaean desert to Zen study centers in
Japan and elsewhere to Scientology organizations in many
parts of the world, were and are attempts to provide
containership -- containership that provides for the
safe acquisition of paranormal abilities. Typically, in
a mystery school, only a select few are accepted as
acolytes; those admitted must submit to a rigorous
preparatory process, an initiation; and the contents of
the instruction are jealously guarded: the wisdom
remains secret.
In this program, we will have a look at such schools,
considering both their gifts and the traps to which they
are prone. We will share our own exposures to "hidden"
information, our own searches for containership. And we
will reflect on whether, as teachings about the
mysteries increasingly move from private enclaves of
shelter and secrecy to the public light of day, there is
still a role -- albeit a new role -- for mystery
schools.
Rev. Ron Moor is a hands-on healer and ordained
minister. Rev. Moor studied for eight years with noted
healer, Rosalyn L. Bruyere, and for three years was lead
pastor at her Healing Light Center Church and Seminary.
Ron founded the Center for Wholeness, where he offers
classes on healing, spiritual growth, and private
healing sessions. He served for four years as associate
pastor of Lake Harriet Community Church and was twice
Healer in Residence at the annual International
Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship Conference. Rev. Moor has
been a provider at Pathways since 1989 and he has served
as an associate minister at Spirit United Interfaith
Church since 2001.
Ira L. Gordon has been interested in mysteries since, as
an eleven year old, he solved Arthur Conan Doyle's "Case
of the Specled Band" by the second page. Now, longer in
the tooth and a wee bit wiser, his fascination with the
gap between appearances and realities continues --
informed by his explorations in western philosophy,
Kabbalah, Scientology, Jungian psychology, astrology,
and dance.
Join us as, through a power point presentation, a film
clip, conversation, and exercises, we explore our
potential -- individual and collective -- to become the
ones we've waited for.
MAGNT, the Minnesota chapter of the Association for Global New
Thought, offers activities to expand consciousness. Its purpose
is to inspire, inform and empower people to create an awakened
world. MAGNT is supported by local Unity and Religious Science
churches.
There is no admission fee for this or other MAGNT
programs unless specified. Donations are welcome. No
need to pre-register. Just come and be warmly included.
Come to learn, to ask questions, and to engage in
spirited conversation with the group.
We look forward to seeing you.
