2012: The Best of Times, The Worst of Times ... ?
An Astrological Perspective

Facilitator: Ira L. Gordon

2012: Just a number. The year that follows 2011. And yet for many of us, 2012 evokes mystery, anticipation, and perhaps fear.

One obvious source of this excitement is a Mayan calendar prognostication that identifies 2012 as the year when a 5,125 year cycle will culminate. And yet ... most of us are not devotees of the Mayan world view. Why does the idea of an approaching end time, of a turning point in our collective journey carry so much energy?

Perhaps it's this: many of us sense that we -- the members of the human race -- are at a brink. Ecologically, economically, politically, spiritually we are in crisis. The words of Charles Dickens describing another tumultuous period in history come to mind: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ..."* Something has to give.

In this conversation, we will examine what astrology has to say about where we're headed. Astrologers have, for quite a while, been anticipating that, owing to a particularly stark pattern now beginning to unfold, the years 2012 through 2015 would be a period of dramatic change in the affairs of humankind. We will consider how the astrological factors may herald a shift in global consciousness and global distribution of power. And we will consider how our individual journeys may be interweaving with the collective journey that beckons.

Participants in this conversation are requested to bring paper and writing implements and come prepared to think and feel outside of their accustomed boxes.

* Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

Ira L. Gordon Bio:  Mr. Gordon is a practicing astrologer and a student of the many ways large and small in which we are dragged -- often kicking and screaming -- into our futures. In addition to sorting out patterns, he makes dances and writes plays.
