Topic: It's Never Too Late... Gnosticism:
A Report From The Edge
With Rev. Patricia Drury, EGM

Well before the Common Era, among the educated Greek-speaking Jews of Alexandria, a mystical way of approaching spirituality arose, now known as Gnosticism. Over the centuries, those principles and writings were interwoven into both Judaism and Christianity and were rejected, banished, vilified, burned, and suppressed in every possible way. Much of the richness of early Christianity was gutted when the Gnostics were declared to be heretics, but these ideas have never been extinguished. They are emerging once again on the edges of our collective consciousness.

“Gnosticism” is derived from the Greek “Gnosis” and “Gnosis” means knowledge, but not rational or factual knowledge. It is more the idea of “insight” or “apprehension” through simultaneous self-knowledge and knowledge of the fullness of what is. Gnosis, being beyond words, is alluded to in myths, allegories, and poetry, the antithesis of dogma.

Come learn more about this ancient tradition and one of its modern forms. We will touch on some of the most compelling and controversial Gnostic myths and writings - those relating to Creation, the Feminine Principle, Sophia and the Masculine Principle, the Dancing Savior or Logos. And we will explore a guided meditation grounded in contemporary Gnostic work and savor some passages from the literature of Gnosis.
